This pigment is an important pigment treated product of indigo, which has excellent light resistance, climate fastness, and heat stability. It provides a blue color tone and can be used to prepare liquid dispersion formulations. It is mainly used for dyeing and printing of viscose fiber raw slurry.

Indigo naturalis extract is a concentrated mixture made by extracting (or ''pulling'') isatis indigotica's chemical constituents out of the inert plant fiber (cellulose) with a solution of grain alcohol and water. Good indigo naturalis extract should optimally preserve the aroma, taste and biological activity of isatis indigotica from which it is made.
